THE creation of new ministries has not incurred additional operating expenses for the Perikatan Nasional government, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said today.

He said the administration of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin created three new ministries – National Unity, Environment and Water, and Higher Education.

Three others – Energy and Natural Resources, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Education – were restructured while the Economic Affairs ministry was dismantled.

“Although new ministries have been created and the number of ministers and deputy ministers has increased, there is no additional allocation involved as expenditure has been redistributed or reallocated for the new ministries.

“For the additional ministers and deputy ministers especially in the Prime Minister’s Department, the expenditure involved will first use the (existing) allocation for the ministry and the rest from savings,” he said when replying to additional questions from Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu-Independent) in parliament today.

Tengku Zafrul said matters of allocation for the ministries would be brought for parliamentary approval through the Supply Bill 2020 and the motion on Development Expenditure Estimates 2020 which would be tabled this session. – Bernama, July 21, 2020.

  • This minister is a nut!
Instead of putting the money to better use, it has to be channeled to pay the extra ministers and deputy ministers now!
How to place our hope to the nut to manage our tax money properly and efficiently?

  • How do you expect from a minister who says the country still have plenty of money especially through Employee Provident Fund?

  • New ministries do not incur additional costs? How are the costs of relocating personnel and ministry offices plus renovation costs and new stationery for those branches in the States going to be paid if not as additional allocations from the Treasury? The new Finance Minister should think hard before making statements like this so that the public will not think he is trying to hoodwink the rakyat or is seen as ignorant and therefore unfit to fill the post as Minister of Finance.
