DAP lawmaker Hannah Yeoh has sued former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan for making defamatory statements against her in a speech, which claimed that DAP was being run by communist sympathisers and Christian evangelists.

Musa, 68 allegedly made the statements during a speech at a forum held on January 30, this year, at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), where he serves as a principal lecturer.

In his speech, he said DAP had published a book which blamed the Malays for the May 13 riots and that the party had held a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the Hat Yai accords in Selangor last December in an attempt to revive communism.

He also linked DAP with Christian evangelist groups and that Yeoh, who is Segambut MP, had written a book on turning Malaysia into a Christian country.

The forum, titled “The Hat Yai Peace Accords: Did the Communist Party of Malaya surrender?” was organised by UiTM’s Institute of Malay rulers.

Yeoh, who is former deputy women, family and community development minister, filed her writ of summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry on July 3, said her lawyer Lim Wei Jiet when contacted today.

She said Musa’s statements were intended to malign her reputation in the perception of the public, and intended to harm her politically, among others. The Segambut MP is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages.

Cause papers have been served on July 8 to law firm Messrs Azam Aziz and Co, which is representing Musa.

On February 5, it was reported that Musa was being investigated by the police over his UiTM speech. – July 20, 2020.
