RAHANG assemblywoman Mary Josephine Prittam Singh has withdrawn her resignation from DAP, 10 days after quitting it.
Negri Sembilan DAP chief Anthony Loke today said Mary Josephine made the decision after he met her in Kuala Lumpur last week.
“Ten days ago (July 10) she had a press conference saying that she has quit the party. After that, I also had a press conference and sent a letter to her asking her to reconsider her decision.”
“Other DAP leaders have also made open statements. Some called her, some sent messages and many visited her, urging her to stay in the party.
“Last Friday, I had a meeting with her in KL and she agreed to withdraw her resignation.” Loke said at a press conference today that was attended by Mary Josephine and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
Ten days ago, Mary Josephine said she had quit the party but would continue to support Pakatan Harapan in the Negri Sembilan assembly.
The two-term state lawmaker said she quit after being repeatedly side-lined from the DAP’s decision-making process.
“It is very painful. I have been with DAP for 46 years. I am still in support of the Pakatan Harapan government.
“I am resigning as Wanita DAP national organising secretary, Pakatan Harapan national women’s vice-chief, Negri Sembilan Wanita DAP chief and Negri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan deputy wanita chief,” she had said during an emotional press conference on July 10.
Today, she said she decided to return as she could not bear the thought of leaving a party that she has been a member of for almost five decades.
“My return to DAP is because it would be very painful for me to leave and miss out on something that I’ve loved and treasured all these 46 years.
“That was why I had a meeting with Anthony. I told him it was painful, and I wanted to come back.”
She said she will not betray the people of Rahang, and thanked DAP for taking her back.
“You gave me confidence to look after Rahang, to look after the community, the people who voted for me, and also those who didn’t vote for me. As long as you are a resident of Rahang, I will not abandon you. I will always be here for you.”
Mary Josephine said she will reclaim all her posts in DAP and PH.
“I’m not going to threaten or blackmail DAP in relation to what I announced at my press conference the other day.
“There were some differences in opinion, but in line with my beliefs, I do not expect Negri Sembilan DAP to U-turn on their decision, and I don’t want that to happen,” said the 71-year-old, without revealing the issue.
It is believed that she announced her departure from the party after the state leadership did not endorse her choice of village community management council chairmen. – July 20, 2020.
