RIGHTS activist Rama Ramanathan is baffled as to why police want to question him over last week’s “Black Thursday” rally when his name is not in a notice submitted to the force.
“I am heading to (the) Dang Wangi (police station), but I am not too clear as to why I’ve been called up,” said the Eliminating Deaths and Abuse in Custody Together (Edict) spokesman earlier today.
“My name is not in the notice we submitted.”
Police have summoned Rama and Khalid Ismath from Edict, as well as Parti Sosialis Malaysia deputy chairman S. Arutchelvan.
The gathering, to honour those who died in custody, took place opposite the Bar Council building in Kuala Lumpur.
Khalid said he organised the rally on behalf of Edict.
He said he does not know why Arutchelvan has been called up as the latter was only a guest speaker at the event.
“Maybe he was called up because he gave a speech, but I’m not certain what the reason is.
“Our lawyers are M. Visvanathan, Raj Surian Pillai and Farida Mohamad.”
The three are at the Dangi Wangi station to give their statements. – July 20, 2020.
