FORMER prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad thanked jazz queen Sheila Majid for voicing concerns plaguing Malaysians on Twitter tonight.

“One icon after another have spoken up for the future of the country. From Fathiah Latiff to Aznil Nawawi and now Sheila Majid.

“The youth must be brave enough to step up. The future is in your hands. If not us, who else? Thank you Sheila Majid,” said Dr Mahathir on his account @chedetofficial.

Although Sheila did not mention any political parties, the popular singer voiced her disappointment with a number of issues.

At noon today, Sheila tweeted “Food is expensive, ringgit is weak, cost of living is high and jobs are scarce. Malaysians are becoming tired and angry for being squeezed over debts we did not create.

“Stop making excuses and looking for faults. Focus on the job of getting our country back on track! Disappointing,” said Sheila, who has 214,000 followers on Twitter.

The singer is the second popular artiste to voice out on current issues in less than a week. The tweet was retweeted more than 7,500 times and liked 4,400 times. It also attracted 178 comments at 9.30pm tonight.

On December 1, popular actress Fathiah Latiff questioned plans to charge Dr Mahathir over Bank Negara Malaysia’s forex losses in the 1980s after the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry report last week.

She also appeared to question why investigations concerning 1Malaysia Development Bhd have not been revealed to the public.

“Digging up an old story? Ok, let’s talk about a sum of money that was deposited into someone’s personal account.

“Investigation should be made accordingly and the result should be disclosed to the public since there are questions that have not been fully answered. Agree?” she said on Twitter. – December 5, 2017.
