HUMAN Resources Minister M. Saravanan today gave an assurance that the government will hold talks with GrabFood and Foodpanda to address riders’ complaints, including low fare rates.

He said whatever solution is reached will be in accordance with existing policies.

“I can assure them that their problems will be attended to. We are trying to reduce unemployment, so we will do whatever we can to resolve their issues,” he told reporters after receiving a memorandum from the riders in Putrajaya.

More than 100 people, including representatives from the two companies and Gerakan Tuntut Malaysia, were present during the handover.

GrabFood rider Khairi Hasim, 41, said among the problems they face are changes to the standard operating procedure and delivery charges.

“Also, there’s an issue concerning GrabCar drivers, who are allowed to make food deliveries even though movement curbs have been largely lifted.

“Not only are they taking passengers, but they are also making food deliveries, and this affects GrabFood motorcycle riders.”

Foodpanda rider Jeffry Rizal Jamaluddin, 45, said the company’s salary-calculation method has resulted in him taking home less than he should.

“Our pay is calculated manually using the Excel software, and the people who do this always make mistakes.”

He pointed out the weakness of the Roadrunner GPS app that riders use.

“It can’t detect riders’ movements well, or note that a rider is taking a break. During our break, we don’t take orders, and we have to take breaks.” – Bernama, July 17, 2020.
