ONLY five of the 32 cabinet members have not declared their assets to the government, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He, however, will not disclose the identities of the five ministers.
“Ninety-seven percent of the cabinet (32 members) have done it. Only five have not. I will not say who they are but I will look into it,” he said during the minister’s question time today at Dewan Rakyat.
“The same goes for deputy ministers and MPs on the Perikatan Nasional side,” said Muhyiddin (Pagoh-Bersatu).
He said there are a lot of new people in the government and asks for more time to complete the asset declaration exercise.
Muhyiddin was responding Teo Nie Cheng’s (Kulai-Pakatan Harapan) supplementary question on the cabinet’s asset decoration exercise.
On March 11, Muhyiddin promised that the cabinet members would declare their assets to the government within three months.
Newly appointed Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun did not allow additional questions and moved on to the next question.
There, however, appeared to be an oversight with the statement as five ministers represent 15% of the cabinet.
PH introduced the asset declaration exercise when it came into power in 2018.
Besides ministers and their deputies, PH MPs and the ministers’ aides are also required to declare their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The declaration is then published on MACC’s website.
MACC has disabled the site since Perikatan Nasional took over on March 1. – July 16, 2020.
