ROSMAH Mansor’s corruption trial involving a solar hybrid project in Sarawak, has been postponed for the day as her lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kadir is unwell to proceed with witness cross-examination.

The trial will now continue on August 3.

Earlier this morning, the prosecution and defence teams were seen exiting Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan’s chamber.

Deputy public prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram when met by later confirmed the postponement.

He said the prosecution had no choice but to agree to the postponement as Akberdin was the defence lawyer tasked to cross-examine the trial’s 16th witness, Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd partner Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah.

“He is the lawyer who is tasked to cross-examine this witness.

“So, we have no choice not to object because the counsel is unable to conduct the cross-examination. He can’t speak,” Gopal told reporters.

Akberdin when met by The Malaysian Insight confirmed that he was unable to continue with today’s session.

Yesterday, Rayyan testified that the former prime minister’s wife was given RM6.5 million in two tranches in relation to the project.

Rosmah, 69, faces three corruption charges, one of which is soliciting RM187.5 million from Jepak Holdings managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin as inducement to help his company secure a RM1.25 billion contract to outfit 369 schools in Sarawak with solar hybrid systems.

She is also accused of receiving bribes totalling RM6.5 million from Saidi in 2016 and 2017. – July 16, 2020.

  • This can only be seen as a delaying tactic. The testimony so far is damning to the woman.
