THE third series of the 2018 National Audit Report was tabled in Parliament today, after it was initially scheduled for the tabling in the March sitting.

Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid said in a press conference today that the tabling of the report was delayed due to the postponement of the Dewan Rakyat sitting and enforcement of the movement control order.

Despite the delay, Azman said the findings were still relevant to enhance the performance of the audited entities.

The department had conducted 12 performance audits involving RM742.48 billion spent on programmes, activities and projects of 10 ministries in the third series of its 2018 report.

“Of this, 10 involved the programme/activity category and one involved the construction and ICT system.”

He added that the department could not brief Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on its findings as the chairman and members of the committee have yet to be appointed.

The briefing will be held once the members of the committee are appointed.

The national audit department audited 17 programmes and activities involving 22 state government departments and agencies.

To enable corrective and remedial action, 122 recommendations have been made to the departments and agencies.

Nik Azman said his department is set to release the first series of its 2019 report in October. – July 14, 2020.
