MALAYSIA is looking at various options, including a full virtual conference, for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2020 summit in November, International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that another possibility would be to allow delegates from Covid-19-safe countries to attend, while others would participate by teleconference.

“We are looking at several choices. It could be a full virtual conference but there are eight time zones. 

“Or we could host it in a hybrid form, those who are in green zones can attend, and those who are not can attend virtually,” Azmin said during the ministers’ question time today.

He was replying to Ignatius Darell Leiking’s (Penampang-Warisan) question how Malaysia will host the Apec 2020 Summit in view of the restrictions posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Azmin said Malaysia has continued with scheduled Apec programmes by holding meetings virtually. – July 13, 2020.
