DAP must be extra careful with their statements about the Malays if the opposition is to make headway with the community, said Otai Reformis coalition president Mustaffa Kamil Ayub today.

According to Mustaffa, he hopes non-Malays in Pakatan Harapan can be more sensitive to the Malays if the party wishes to address its weakest point of its appeal to the country’s largest ethnic group.

“We urged DAP, our friend in PH, to be more mindful when making a statement so the Malays – the majority in this country – do not feel threatened,” he said.

“We have to take care of this sensitivity issue together. Let us not play up racial or religious sentiment. Respect the official religion and the constitution.”

Earlier, Mustaffa said that the Otai Reformis coalition supported Anwar Ibrahim in his bid to become the country’s ninth prime minister, adding that Anwar is the only individual that could steer the country forward.

“We are optimistic and we back him as the prime minister. We have been in this struggle for more than 20 years since the Reformasi era starting in 1998.

“Anwar is the best candidate to become the prime minister,” he added.

Anwar was supposed to have replaced Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister during the shortlived PH administration, which the PH presidential council had agreed upon.

However, the agreement did not materialise after Bersatu dropped out of PH and formed a new government led by Muhyiddin Yassin, with support from Umno and PAS.

PH earlier this month named Anwar as its preferred candidate for prime minister after failing to agree with PKR that Dr Mahathir should return for six months if or when the coalition returns to power.

Yesterday, Bersatu rebels and Warisan opted to stay out of PH and remain independent. – July 11, 2020.

  • All voters are 'customers' to PH. Treat them with respect and don't antagonise them. Just simple theory. Must try to understand the Malays, what they want, their priorities and aspirations. Must tell the Malays in a very logical ways for them to unserstand what the BN thieves have done to the country. Step by step the consequences and sequence of events how billions were stolen by the kleoptocrate.
