ANWAR Ibrahim has urged his Pakatan Harapan allies to stand united and not depend on other parties who will eventually betray them.
Without naming anyone but clearly referring to Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the PKR president added that PH should not allow itself to again be led astray by the person who had resigned without consulting anyone in the pact.
He said the remaining pact partners – PKR, DAP and Amanah – have not fallen out over the selection of the prime ministerial candidate.
“In the PH scheme of things, if we want to remain together, we will have to stick to our aims and struggle.
“We should not allow the spirit with PH to be dismantled. Let us not do things as if we are forced to rely on someone who will only backstab us again, as has happened before.
“Simply resigning without referring to anyone (in PH), causing so much of confusion, ignoring our principles and manifesto, and so much more,” he said yesterday night on Facebook Live.
The Port Dickson MP said PH should reset by strengthening the pact as well as its member parties.
PH is in turmoil over who to appoint as its prime ministerial candidate.
While DAP and Amanah are ready to accept Dr Mahathir again as the PM candidate, PKR is firmly against the idea and has proposed Anwar instead for the position.
Dr Mahathir subsequently proposed Warisan president Shafie Apdal for the role but this was again rejected by PKR.
DAP and Amanah have indicated that they will approve Shafie’s candidacy if the PH leadership council agreed.
Anwar yesterday stressed that PH should not give in to such proposals.
“PKR has given its view. We must stick to the people’s mandate from the 2018 general election.
“We can’t just allow changes like this to be made as one likes. We can’t just name anyone (as the PM candidate). This is not our way,” he said.
Dr Mahathir’s faction that consists of 5 MPs are no longer in Bersatu but are aligned with PH, while Warisan is also not a part of the pact. – July 5, 2020.

When the Agong was interviewing all the MPs as to who they would support for PM, Pakatan Harapan, lead by PKR nominated Anwar knowing full well that TUN had the majority support when GPS initially supported TUN which together with PH and Warisan would have had a comfortable majority to be returned as PM.
Today, the reality is GPS has spun Anwar's efforts to get its support, so he is unable to get majority support yet he is not agreeable for TUN to attempt to get majority support. What have we got to lose? If TUN is unable to get Majority support, then we are no worse than where we are now.
This mess is squarely on Anwar and PKR operatives who are set on their man to be PM. TUN is even bending backwards by taking himself out of the equation by proposing YB Shafie, the first potential East Malaysian PM candidate. It appears that Anwar is not giving way either. I hope and will be happy to be proven wrong in a few days time.
