THE heads of all parties that support the Perikatan Nasional government met with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in Putrajaya today.

Perikatan parliamentary whip Mohamed Azmin Ali and Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin also attended the meeting.

Muhyiddin posted photos of the two-hour meeting on Facebook, saying the gathering was held to strengthen Perikatan’s understanding and cooperation.

“All party leaders expressed their support for the prime minister and discussed their cooperation to strengthen their understanding and collaboration for the country’s political stability, peace and prosperity,” he posted.

Besides Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, the other heads of parties present included Umno’s Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS’ Abdul Hadi Awang, MCA’s Wee Ka Siong and MIC’s Vigneswaran Sanasee.

From Sarawak were Abang Johari Abang Openg as head of Parti Bersatu Bumiputera (PBB) and chair of Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Sim Kui Hian of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Tiong King Sing of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and James Jemut Masing of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

From Sabah were Maximus Johnity Ongkili of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Joseph Kurup of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) and Parti Solidarity Tanahairku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan.

The Perikatan government, formed in early March after Muhyiddin withdrew Bersatu from Pakatan Harapan to ally with Barisan Nasional, PAS, GPS and former PKR leaders, is not a formally registered coalition.

Muhyiddin currently has the support of 115 MPs from these parties, including one from PKR (Lubok Antu) who quit the party recently, giving him a slim majority in the 222-member Dewan Rakyat. – July 1, 2020.
