SCHOOLS for non-examination students will resume on July 15, said Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

He said classes for Form 6, remove classes, Form 1 to 4 for secondary schools as well as Standard 5 and 6 will resume in mid-July.

Whereas the classes for primary students Standard 1 to 4 will resume on July 22.

“The opening dates for schools is applicable to all government schools, government-aided schools, private schools and any learning institutions that are registered under the Education Ministry,” Radzi told a press conference today.

The Bersatu man added even schools that are not registered with the ministry must comply with these reopening rules.

Radzi said the Education Ministry was advised by the National Security Council and the Health Ministry on the reopening of schools.

He said the home-based learning system implemented during the movement control order (MCO) was not particularly effective for the learning process.

“We have done our best but there are multiple challenges. We acknowledge there are weaknesses in implementing online learning sessions.

“Home-based learning is something new for teachers, pupils and parents. There are many students who are not able to follow these classes as they have limited access to the communication technologies,” Radzi said.

The government decided to reopen schools because if this continues, the mastery of subjects will be diluted.

“This will impact the motivation and interest of pupils to continue following the teaching and learning process. This will also affect the relationship between the school and pupils,” Radzi added.

Tuition centres, language centres and other private learning institutions will also be allowed to operate as normal from July 15. – July 1, 2020.

  • I saw the whole press conference. The Education Ministry has really done its homework and the procedures put in place are well thought out and commendable, to put it mildly. The Minister himself projected confidence, was reassuring and very impressive in his speech as well as in his answers to questions. Our children are safe in schools. This is my assessment. Double thumbs up to the authorities.
