Man wanted over Datuk Seri murder arrested


POLICE have arrested a 26-year-old man over the kidnap and murder of a property developer in Rawang.

The suspect was apprehended in Bukit Sentosa, Kuala Kubu Baru, last night.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat, in a statement, said the man, who goes by the nickname “El”, has been remanded for a week till July 7.

Yesterday, he said police were looking for El, real name Sheikh Ismail Sheikh Hassan, whose last known addresses were Nos. J-2-01 and J-3-29, Apartmen Teratai in Bukit Beruntung MK Land, Rawang.

He said the hunt is on for another man, also from Rawang, to facilitate investigations.

“Vikneswarar Nagentiran, also known as Thamby @ Vinod, is wanted. His last known address was 587-144, New Green Park, 48000, Rawang, Selangor.

“Those with information can contact the nearest police station.”

The body of the property developer was found in Batu 27 Jalan Rawang on Saturday.

The victim, a 55-year-old with the Datuk Seri title, was kidnapped while out on a jog in Jalan Persiaran Perdana, Bandar Sri Damansara, Petaling Jaya, on June 10.

Seven men, including a Bangladeshi, were detained on Sunday in relation to the case.

“The suspects demanded a ransom of S$50 million (RM154 million) from the victim’s family after the kidnapping,” said Fadzil.

“But, the ransom was not paid.”

Malaysiakini today reported that the murder mastermind was a candidate in the 13th general election, but did not say which party he belonged to. – June 29, 2020.
