UMNO Youth wants the authorities to act against the author, editor and publisher of a book on Malaysian politics, who the party wing said have insulted Malaysia’s coat of arms.

Umno Youth leader Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki called for the book Rebirth: Reformasi, Resistance, And Hope In New Malaysia to be banned.

The 212-page book was published in February and it featured articles by political analysts and journalists, and includes reports on the 2018 general election.

In a Facebook post, Asyraf included a link to the publisher’s Facebook page featuring the book but it appeared that the post has been taken down.

According to Asyraf, the book cover image bears a resemblance to the national coat of arms, and features a naked child flanked by two tigers with humanoid faces stepping on a crocodile.

“It shows the author of the book is belittling the dignity of the coat of arms and had insulted the symbol of the nation’s sovereignty,” Asyraf said in his Facebook page.

“Action must be taken against the author, editor and publisher if it is proven there was an intention to insult the nation’s official symbol,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman said it will call those linked to a book alleged to have insulted Jata Negara (Malaysian coat of arms) on its cover, reported The Star.

CID deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said they included the author, editor and publisher of the book.

“We have already received a report on the matter.

“We will investigate and call up the relevant parties, including the author and publisher,” he told the news portal today. – June 29, 2020.
