PKR vice-president Tian Chua has been let off with a warning while five others, including the women’s wing chief, have been sacked, said the party today.

Those sacked are women’s wing head Haniza Talha, Sabah women’s chief Rahimah Majid, Penang women’s chief Nur Zarina Zakaria and assemblymen Afif Bahardin (Seberang Jaya) and Zulkifli Ibrahim (Nibong Tebal), disciplinary board chairman Ahmad Kassim said in a statement today.

Haniza and Afif were previously suspended from the party.

The action against these leaders are believed to be over their relationships with sacked PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is now part of the ruling Perikatan Nasional pact.

The decision was made by the leadership council last night following a suggestion from the disciplinary board, he said.

Two others were let off with a warning, including Penang women’s communication director Carolyn Khor and Machap Jaya assemblyman Ginie Lim.

Another member, Ahmad Raj Abdullah has been suspended indefinitely after he was alleged to have attacked Chua during a melee at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya on March 1.

The former Batu MP was accused of not siding with president Anwar Ibrahim during the conflict with Azmin.

The party has been rocked by the defection of Azmin, its former vice-president Zuraida Kamarudin and nine other MPs to PN. Their departures, along with Bersatu from Pakatan Harapan, led to the ruling coalition’s collapse in late February.

Following that, two PKR assemblymen resigned earlier this month. They are known to be loyal to Azmin.

Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi, who was the PKR women’s wing deputy chief, resigned from the party on June 13, followed by Afif, who was a Penang exco, on June 24.

Last month PKR expelled 348 members and suspended another 285.

Among those sacked are grassroots leaders, including youth vice-chief Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus, women information chief Syarul Ema Abu Samah, Rembia assemblyman Muhammad Jailani Khamis, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How and Sarawak PKR secretary Vernon Albert Kedit. – June 29, 2020.
