MUSLIMS can celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha next month, but the ritual slaughter can only be held at certain places, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

The green light from the government comes after it had previously limited the celebrations of Hari Raya Aidilfitri in May, and barred people from returning to their hometowns to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“The approval for slaughtering is for places in the Federal Territories. Other states must get the approval from their respective state religious bodies.

“Slaughtering can be done only at mosques, surau, slaughtering houses and designated places allowed by religious council,” he explained at his media briefing.

Aidil Adha falls on July 31.

Ismail Sabri said that only 30 people are allowed to manage the slaughter of cattle.

“From slaughtering the cow to distributing the meat to the needy, only 30 people are allowed to handle cattle.

“They need to also inform the district health centres,” said Ismail Sabri.

Previously, the government did not allow Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, but Putrajaya allowed the public to visit close relatives or neighbours living in the same state.
