THE Covid-19 cluster in Pedas, Negri Sembilan, is under control as all the infected persons were put under quarantine early, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“The factory workers were exposed to positive Covid-19 cases and we had quarantined 316 of them for 14 days.
“At the end of the quarantine, we tested them again and hence the cases you see now are coming from that.
“The Pedas cluster is under control as we isolated them early on,” said the health director-general in Putrajaya today.
Noor Hisham was responding to a question on whether the Pedas cluster posed a risk of spreading further.
The Pedas cluster, which began in a factory is the only active cluster left.
Noor Hisham said the total number of cases in the Pedas cluster was now 316, consisting of 14 Malaysians and 312 foreigners.
Of the 312, 163 were Nepalis, 67 Bangladeshis, 35 Myanmars, 31 Indonesians, four Indians and one Vietnamese and Cambodian.
He said the Pedas cluster began among the Malaysian workers and later spread to the foreign workers.
“The virus spread quickly among the foreign workers as their accommodation was packed and had little space.
“But they have since been isolated from the public so that they do not pose any risk.”
Malaysia today recorded 15 new cases, with 21 recoveries.
The total number of cases stands at 8,587, with active cases being only 289.
The death toll remains at 121. – June 22, 2020.
