SINGAPOREANS and Bruneians will soon be allowed to enter Malaysia without undergoing health screenings, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The defence minister also hoped the two countries would return the favour by allowing Malaysians to enter their countries without Covid-19 tests.
“Singaporeans living in Singapore, or Bruneians in Brunei can enter Malaysia. They do not have to apply with the immigration or go for health screening.
“We hope they will return the favour and at the moment, our Foreign Ministry is discussing with their counterparts,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said Malaysia has also agreed to allow foreign students to return to the country to complete their studies.
He said this included foreign students at international schools.
“Foreign students who study in Malaysia can come back to study but they need to get tested before returning.”
Malaysia has closed its borders to all foreign visitors since March 18 when the movement-control order (MCO) against Covid-19 began. Diplomats entering during the period were required to undergo mandatory quarantine at government approved centres or hotels.
Malaysia is now beginning to ease restrictions on entry for foreigners as it moves into the recovery MCO phase. The government also said today expatriates from “green zone countries” can enter without having to undergo quarantine provided they have passed a Covid-19 test in their country of origin.
Under the recovery MCO, Malaysia is also allowing the resumption of domestic tourism, subject to health standard operating procedures, as well as interstate travel. – June 19, 2020.
