A MAN has been arrested for selling application forms offering the issuance of MyKad in exchange for support for Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election.

Sabah police commissioner Ramli Din confirmed that the man, identified as “Panglima” from Simunul, Semporna, was detained by the Immigration Department.

A private message obtained by The Malaysian Insight between an Eastern Sabah Security Command officer and a civilian, sent last Saturday, revealed that the forms were being sold for RM54 each.

The officer said those who bought the forms were from Kalabakan, and that the man selling them was an Umno member.

The officer said the man was arrested in Kuantan, Pahang.

A photo of the form went viral after it was uploaded on DAP’s Teratai rep Tiew Way Keng’s Facebook page.

Zulkarnain Mahdar, the chairman of the Pakatan NGO Pro BN coalition, said the photo was uploaded on December 26 last year, along with a status claiming that BN was behind the issuance of the form.

“Tiew should have verified (the authenticity of) the form with the National Registration Department (NRD) before making false allegations,” he said.

On Sunday, NRD denied that it had issued the form, which bore Malaysia’s coat of arms, the 1Malaysia logo and the department’s logo.

On Wednesday, Zulkarnain lodged a report over the matter at the Karamunsing police station in Kota Kinabalu, and the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation Youth wing did the same in Tuaran. – December 1, 2017.
