SEGAMBUT MP Hannah Yeoh will be in the Bukit Aman police headquarters on June 23 to have her statement taken over a Facebook post which she has already denounced as fake.

The former deputy minister in charge of women’s affairs said in a statement today that she will fully cooperate with the police in the probe.

She reiterated that the post on her Facebook profile in which she allegedly attacked PAS was fake.

“I was informed on March 11 that a poster featuring my photograph and a fake statement had gone viral.

“I immediately explained through my Facebook page that the statement was not mine and that it was fake.”

The post in question read: “Considering that the deputy minister of women and family development is from PAS, so marriage with minor (to permit sex with children) will spread after this. This is the disease of uncivilised Muslims in this country.”

“I reiterate once again that the statement in the poster is not mine and is fake,” Yeoh  said.

Bukit Aman said yesterday that Yeoh would be called in to assist in investigations filed under the Sedition Act, Penal Code and the Communication and Multimedia Act.

Meanwhile, Bukit Gelugor MP and DAP National Legal Bureau chairman Ramkarpal Singh said Yeoh should not be held responsible for the post as she has declared that it is fake.

He said the police is missing the point in investigating Yeoh as she was not responsible for the post which was the work of a third party out to tarnish her name.

“Further, even if it is shown that the said post was shared on the Hannah Yeoh Facebook page, it was done for the purpose of pointing out that the same was not made by her and was defamatory of her, obviously with a view to its removal, which is clearly not seditious,” Ramkarpal said in a statement.

Ramkarpal urged Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Huzir Mohamed to find out who was truly responsible for the writing.

“It is elementary that to be liable for an offence under the Sedition Act 1948, one has to be proven to be the maker of the offensive statement.”

Yeoh said she is also under investigation for a March 9 tweet in which she asked about the fate of Pakatan Harapan’s National Strategy Plan which was launched in January to prevent child marriage. – June 18, 2020.
