KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will look into generating about 1,000 jobs for the homeless in the capital, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

He also said those from other states seeking employment in Kuala Lumpur should enquire for jobs with DBKL.

“Those seeking jobs better come and see us instead of ending up homeless.

“We will look for job opportunities for them,” he said after visiting the homeless centre in Jalan Pahang today.

Annuar said they will seek out jobs in various sectors and DBKL will also reserve 200 jobs for them.

DBKL has allocated RM200 million annually for maintenance work and proposed to allocate 20% towards hiring the homeless.

“The jobs will be simple maintenance work, such as repainting government buildings, gardening and landscaping among others.

“If these individuals successfully land a job with DBKL, they can earn RM1,200 per month. Those who successfully get jobs with private companies could actually make more money.”

To date, DBKL has taken around 700 to 800 homeless off the streets and sent them to training camps, he said.

Around 30% are not capable of working, consisting of the elderly, those with mental illness, drug addicts and the disabled.  – June 18, 2020.
