BARISAN Nasional called on other parties today to give Umno a free run in the Chini by-election in July.

BN secretary-general Annuar Musa said the coalition has picked an Umno candidate to contest the state seat.

“We hope there will be no contest (in Chini by-election).

“We don’t want to burden the people. If there is a contest, then there will be campaigning during this recovery movement control order period.

“This area has always been represented by Umno. So it is better if there is no contest,” he said after visiting a centre for the homeless in Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, today.

Annuar said the candidate will be revealed in Pekan today at 2.30pm.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced last week that the party will not be fielding a candidate for the Chini by-election, indicating that Pakatan Harapan will be sitting this one out.

Filing of nominations for election is on June 20. – June 18, 2020.
