SELANGOR Menteri Besar Mohamed said today the arrest of his nephew yesterday for alleged bribery was a “show” ahead of the Umno general assembly.
“I do not want to make an accusation but I feel that in this case, there is a political conspiracy. Because, before he was arrested, Umno bloggers already released information (about his arrest) before MACC made its move.
He said he welcomed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigation as long as it is fair and professional.
Earlier today, Azmin’s nephew and three others were remanded seven days by MACC for illegal mining.
The anti-graft body also froze the company accounts containing RM4 million.
A blogger accused Azmin of awarding the sand-mining contract to his nephew.
Azmin has denied the allegation.
“First of all, it was not true (that he had awarded contracts to a nephew). Under the government policy, if there are applications for sand mining on state land, it will be handled by Kumpulan Semesta (Sdn Bhd).
“All tenders were done by them. I am not board member of the company and I do not get involved in their business. I am confident that Kumpulan Semesta has high integrity to ensure all the tender process is transparent. We never compromised on enforcing our policies.”
He said Selangor is able to save up RM400 million in 2016 alone due to its policy and cost-cutting measures.
Azmin said this was a result of open tender and transparency in dealing with tenders and projects. – November 30, 2017.
