45 illegal visitors nabbed on Selangor ‘rat trails’ since March 18

MALAYSIAN authorities have caught 45 foreigners travelling on the “rat trails” in Selangor since the start of the movement control order on May 18.

GOF Fourth Battalion commanding officer Zulafendy Hassan said the foreigners were variously arrested in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang Utara, Klang Selatan, Kuala Langat and Sepang in Ops Covid-19 and Ops Benteng.

“A total of 24 locals, aged between 20 and 50, were also arrested for MCO violations, harbouring of illegals and drug-related crimes,” he told reporters at the GOF guard posts in Kuala Langat.

Selangor Internal Security and Public Order Department chief Rudy Abdullah, who was present, said the GOF had identified 61 rat trails along the Selangor coast.

“Some 200 personnel have been mobilised in six coastal districts to curb the entry of illegal immigrants,” he said, adding that surveillance has been intensified as a coronavirus containment measure. – Bernama, June 16, 2020.
