MAHSA Education Group executive chairman Mohammed Haniffa Abdullah was today appointed Social Security Organisation (Socso) chairman.

Haniffa was also made chairman of Socso’s investment panel, employment insurance and social work social security committees.

Human Resource Minister M. Saravanan also announced three new members to Socso’s board, hailing it as an “almost perfect” team to helm the workers’ welfare fund.

Haniffa is pro-chancellor and executive chairman at Mahsa Education Group, which runs Malaysia’s largest private medical and health university.

Other new appointments to the Socso board were Abdul Halim Mansor, Mohamad Ibrahim Hamid and Adnan Mat. They were appointed as board members for representatives of insured persons.

The Malaysian Insight had reported that five Socso board members would step down – Azih Muda, Andrew Lo, Yong Hee Kong, Wee Hock Kee, and Japar Abd Majid.

Wee was today made chairman of Socso’s board of audit committee.

With the new appointments, Saravanan said that he believed that Socso has an almost perfect board.

“Mohammed Haniffa is a medical expert, experienced and successful in education, especially the medical field.

“The board also comprises members of the public, professionals and corporate members.

“Therefore, I believe this is an almost perfect board,” Saravanan told reporters. – June 15, 2020.
