BRITISH Airways (BA) is selling some pieces from its multimillion-dollar art collection to raise cash to help it through the coronavirus pandemic, reported Jordan’s Petra news agency yesterday.

The collection includes works by Damien Hirst, Bridget Riley and Peter Doig, with one piece believed to be valued at more than US$1 million (RM4.3 million).

At least 10 pieces have been identified for sale, but exactly which ones are not clear.

BA, like other airlines across the world, has seen a collapse in air travel, and is set to cut thousands of jobs.

Last week, chairman and CEO Alex Cruz warned that the cash-strapped carrier’s survival is at stake unless there is a drastic restructuring.

London’s Evening Standard, which first reported the art sale, said auction house Sotheby’s has been brought in to arrange the matter as soon as possible. – Bernama, June 12, 2020.
