FORMS 5 and 6 students due to sit school-leaving examination this year will return to school on June 24, said Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

The senior minister said classes will reopen for those taking the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia, Sijil Vokasional Malaysia, Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia and equivalent international examinations.

“The Health Ministry and the National Security Council have prepared the guidelines in April. 

“After visiting 12 schools and eight private institutions in May, both ministries are satisfied with the guidelines,” he said.

He said 500,444 students from 2,440 schools will return to classrooms. 

Radzi said teachers will check students temperature daily at the school entrance.

“Checks will also be done for teachers, school staff and individuals who have business in the schools. 

“Anyone with a body temperature above 37.5⁰C or symptoms will not be allowed in the school area,” he said.

He said those with high temperatures will be isolated from other students.

“We will then inform the parents and district health department,” he said.

Radzi said tables will be arranged 1m apart and the maximum capacity for a class is 20 students. 

“However, for larger spaces like halls the capacity is certainly higher. There is also social distancing in canteen and parents are advised to pack food for their children.” 

On other students not taking exams, Radzi said the ministry will announce when they can return to clase later.

“As for now they will still study from home,” he said.

He said the ministry will do spot checks to ensure schools  follow procedures.

In April, Radzi said the school-leaving examinations will be pushed to the first quarter of next year, while the Ujian Pendidikan Sekolah Rendah and Pentaksiran Tingkatan TIga will be cancelled this year. – June 10, 2020.
