MALAYSIA is not expecting to see a surge in Covid-19 infections as was the case a few days ago, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said this was because it had completed screenings for detained illegal migrant workers and staff on duty at all four immigration detention centres.

“We are about to finish the second screening at the Bukit Jalil detention centre. We have isolated and admitted the positive cases for treatment.

“So, we are not expecting to see a sudden increase (in cases) like what happened two days ago, where 277 cases were recorded,” he told his daily Covid-19 press briefing at Putrajaya today.

The four detentions centres are in Bukit Jalil, Semenyih, Sepang and Putrajaya.

Noor Hisham said the ministry has screened 4,908 individuals at all four depots and that only two individuals from Bukit Jalil are awaiting their second test results. – June 6, 2020.
