NIGHT markets, morning markets and bazaars are allowed to reopen from June 15 for certain hours and under conditions, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

Morning markets can open from 6am to 11am, night markets from 4pm to 10pm, while bazaars can operate from 5pm to 11pm.

“We have decided to allow all these market traders to run their businesses again starting from June 15.

“They, however, must abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government and, if they do not comply, we can shut them down,” he told the daily briefing on Covid-19 security matters.

There will be no eating at food stalls in these markets, while foot traffic will be kept to a one-way flow, he said.

“And, of course, distancing between stalls,” the defence minister and National Security Council spokesman said.

Ismail Sabri also advised the public and traders to download the MySejahtera application before going to any open market or bazaar.

“Download the app before going so that we can trace those who have visited the open market in case there are any positive Covid-19 cases.”

Such markets have been closed since the movement control order (MCO) was imposed on March 18, and were not included among sectors allowed to resume operations under the conditional MCO, which took effect on May 4. – June 6, 2020.
