MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Redzuan Yusof today ended all speculations over his political alliance by announcing that he will not quit the Perikatan Nasional government.

He said such speculations are baseless and that he is committed to be with the PN government and help the nation thrive.

“There have been many speculations as well as slander on social media on several leaders, including about my resignation.

“I want to emphasise that this is not true and I think there are certain groups with political interests who want to jeopardise the country’s political stability.

“Once again, I have not resigned and will not resign, and will continue working with the cabinet led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to strengthen the administration and management of the country, especially in the very challenging economic conditions during Covid-19,” he said.

The Bersatu man said the press conference today was held to clear the air on his political stand.

He also said that parties and leaders should stop politicking and instead step forward to help overcome the economic crisis caused by Covid-19.

“I just want this to stop here. Please stop here. Do not speculate. We have work to do. Every time I am being asked the same question.

“I just want to continue to work. So why should I resign? I know what we are doing. I think we can get out of this situation that we are in right now… I want to urge all the citizens, politicians, elected representatives to understand that we are helping to build the country’s economy.”

Redzuan also said he is confident the PN pact will be able to helm the government for a long term despite having a razor-thin majority.

There have been talks that Redzuan will be defecting to join the Dr Mahathir Mohamad faction of Bersatu, and thus adding to Pakatan Harapan’s hope of regaining federal power.

He was reported to have announced his resignation last Friday but his aides dismissed the rumours, saying that he was under self-quarantine then.

However, Redzuan later admitted that he had met Dr Mahathir last Friday, and today again refuted suggestions that his meeting was to discuss his move to leave the PN government.

He said he visited the former prime minister in his personal capacity for Hari Raya and there were no political discussions held.

Yesterday, another Bersatu leader, Shahruddin Md Salleh, quit as deputy works minister, leaving a dent in Muhyiddin’s already slim majority. – June 5, 2020.
