EMPLOYERS are not allowed to impose mandatory quarantine on staff who have travelled between states, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakub.

Ismail Sabri said employers are also not allowed to force workers to take annual leave or unpaid leave.

“Only the government can impose mandatory quarantine and it is for those who have returned from overseas or those from Sabah and Sarawak entering the peninsula,” Ismail Sabri said during his daily media briefing today.

“Employers cannot impose such an order after their employees return from interstate travel.

“Employers cannot come up with their own rules and this is not as per guidelines issued by the National Security Council,” he said.

Ismail Sabri was earlier asked if companies can order their staff to be quarantined and take annual leave or unpaid leave after they cross state lines due to work or personal matters.

Interstate travel is only allowed for those with emergencies, deaths in the family, work and couples living apart. – June 4, 2020.
