A TOTAL of RM5.5 million have been lost to 572 cases of scams selling masks online since the start of the movement control order on March 18, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

At his daily press briefing, he said police have arrested 181 individuals and charged 53 people over these scams, from March 18 to June 3.

“The platform used by these irresponsible people are Facebook and WhatsApp.”

Meanwhile, he said Selangor has the most cases of mask scams with 122 reports lodged, followed by Johor and Penang with 68 cases each.

“I would like to offer an advice to the public.

“Do not fall for these sorts of tricks. Don’t buy if the prices are too low and always look for feedback from other buyers.

“Masks are readily available and there is no need to buy them online.” – June 4, 2020.
