5-year-old Sibu boy gets rabies from pet pooch

A 5-YEAR-OLD boy from Taman Sanhill Barat, Sibu, is the latest rabies victim in Sarawak, said Douglas Uggah Embas.

The state Disaster Management Committee chairman said according to the Veterinary Services Department, the victim was bitten by his pet dog on Monday.

The child is currently in stable condition.

“The test result on May 27… showed that the dog is positive for rabies,” Uggah told reporters in Kuching today.

“Samples from the animal have been sent to the state veterinary diagnostic laboratory.”

For this year up to Wednesday, the authorities received 1,254 notifications on animal bites, of which 81.9% involved pet cats and dogs, and wild creatures (18.1%). – Bernama, May 29, 2020.
