BERSATU chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the party plans to sack president Muhyiddin Yassin, and that it would be done through the right channel.
The former prime minister however said that sacking Muhyiddin will only be done at a supreme council meeting with all its members attending.
“We want to sack him, but if we want to do it, we will do it in a proper sitting with the involvement of all supreme council members,” said the 94-year-old leader at a press conference in Bersatu’s office.
Dr Mahathir showed up at the party headquarters this afternoon to meet with organising secretary Muhammad Shuhaimi Yahya, who issued letters terminating the memberships of Dr Mahathir and four party members yesterday.
Suhaimi was, however, sacked by secretary-general Marzuki Yahya for breaching work ethics and party rules.
Suhaimi yesterday sent termination letters to Dr Mahathir, who is Bersatu’s founder and Langkawi MP, and four other MPs, deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir (Jerlun), youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar), supreme council member Dr Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam) and Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu).
Only Syed Saddiq and Mukhriz were present with Dr Mahathir at his press conference this afternoon.
Suhaimi’s letter stated that their party memberships had ceased with immediate effect because of their decision to sit in the federal opposition bloc during the May 18 Dewan Rakyat proceedings.
Their terminations were based on two articles in the party constitution – that they had declared quitting Bersatu, and had joined another party.
However, the five have done neither.
They have disputed their terminations, calling the move unlawful and without basis in the party’s constitution. – May 29, 2020.
