KL-Klang BRT project axed as it overlaps with proposed LRT3, Dewan Rakyat told

THE government cancelled the Kuala Lumpur-Klang Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as the service will overlap with the proposed Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said the government had undertaken a thorough study on the two projects before deciding on the cancellation.

“The LRT3 project covers the route from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia in Klang, through Glenmarie, Shah Alam and Klang town,” she said in reply to a question from Dr Ong Kian Ming (DAP-Serdang) during the ministers’ question time.

The government announced the cancellation of the KL-Klang BRT project early this month.

Nancy said the LRT3 project was given priority after the government took into consideration several factors, including the fact that the LRT3 would cover areas that did not have access to any city rail service.

She added that RapidKL would launch a better monthly pass package in the first quarter of next year to ease the people’s financial burden. – Bernama, November 28, 2017.
