MOHAMED Azmin Ali has no idea how Dr Mahathir Mohamad came to assert that 129 MPs support him to overthrow the Perikatan Nasional government.
He said the change of government two months ago only took place because Dr Mahathir’s resignation as prime minister.
“I don’t know where the number 129 came from.
“I think the Yang di-Pertuan Agong said in the opening of Parliament recently that the reason for the change in government was because the prime minister resigned,” he told a press conference in Alor Setar, Kedah this afternoon.
Azmin said this when asked to comment on social media posts that Dr Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan have the support of 129 parliamentarians, which could see the return of PH as the government.
One media reported that the rumour was just a psychological war waged by a party in PH.
Azmin is in Kedah for a one-day visit and met Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who took office on May 17.
The senior minister said now was not the time for politics, especially when the people and the country were facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Do not make this a political issue,, making the rakyat become victims because some insane person wants to become prime minister,” he said.
Azmin also called on all parties to stop blaming PN for being the current government.
“Don’t blame the PN, what happened was the prime minister (Dr Mahathir) resigned.
“Don’t blame anyone ... that’s their will. In the event of a vacancy, (the position) needs to be filled,” he added.
Several media outlets reported last night that there were rumors that PH leaders wanted to meet Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to show that they have the numbers to form a government.
Political blogger Shahbudin Husin also claimed that Dr Mahathir had enough MPs to support him.
“In terms of the number of MPs or numbers available, whatever number, 113, 115, 120 or 129 is not important because it is more than the minimum number of 112.
“The process of taking over the government is believed to be through a vote of no confidence in Parliament next July,” he wrote.
PH formed the government after the 14th general election in May 2018.
However it lost the federal government after Muhyiddin pulled out his party Bersatu from the pact.
He then formed the federal government with the support of Azmin and 10 other PKR MPs, Umno, PAS and Sarawak-ruling pact GPS.
Muhyiddin took the oath of office as prime minister on March 1.
Dr Mahathir, who is also from Bersatu, rejected this move and has remained in support of PH, along with four other MPs from the party. – May 28, 2020.

I wonder which constituency AA plans to run for MP in GE15 because he is finished in Gombak. So perhaps AA hopes he will have a place in history by becoming a PM during the tenure of this PN govt, albeit a short stint as PM.
