Virus-free migrants from 3 countries to be deported, says senior minister

MALAYSIA will deport undocumented Indonesians, Nepalis and Bangladeshis who have been tested to be free of Covid-19, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob

He said the government will hold talks with these three governments on how to send the migrants home.

“I hope all other governments will follow in their footsteps to cooperate with Malaysia in sending back their undocumented citizens,” he said in his daily briefing today.

“Those who does not carry the virus will be sent home. 

“At the moment, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal have agreed to our suggestion (to send their citizens home),” he said.

Ismail Sabri said all undocumented migrants arrested during the movement control order period have been swab tested.

He said of 4,399 illegal foreigners, only 354 were positive for Covid-19.

“Those who test positive will be housed at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). We are currently waiting for 13 other reports,” he said.

Ismail Sabri revealed only one staff from three immigration depots has tested positive.

“We conducted test on all staff working at the three depot – Bukit Jalil, Semenyih and KLIA.

“One staff was found positive and has been taken for treatment,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said since May 1, police have detained 327 undocumented migrants who tried enter the country illegally.

The defence minister said police also arrested 41 boatmen (tekong) and seven smugglers in various operations nationwide. – May 28, 2020.
