At least 10 Malaysians in New York dead from coronavirus

AT least 10 Malaysians in New York have died from Covid-19 and about 30 others are infected, The Star reported.

Malaysia Association of America (MAA) president Kim Bong said two of the deceased were MAA committee members, one of whom owned a restaurant.

He said the other one was infected on the subway.

A Malaysian couple in Brooklyn is among the virus deaths.

New York is the American epicentre of the coronavirus with more than 29,000 deaths and 350,000 infected. The United States has reported more than 100,000 deaths from Covid-19, the most fatalities from the disease than any other country in the pandemic.

Kim said MAA has helped the families of the deceased by connecting them with funeral homes.

The association has also donated face masks to hospitals and cooked food for healthcare workers.

Kim said MAA members have stopped meeting in person in favour of virtual conferences due to  Covid-19.

He said that at the beginning of the outbreak in New York, few people took seriously the advice to wear a protective mask. – May 28, 2020.
