PUTRAJAYA is preparing more facilities to treat undocumented migrants contracting Covid-19, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

According to the minister, two other locations have been designated to treat infected migrants should MAEPS reach capacity.

“We are worried that if there is a spike, then there might not be enough places for them.

“So, they will be taken to Sungai Buloh Leprosy Centre and an disused maternity ward at Hospital Kuala Lumpur,” he said, adding that MAEPS – which was designated as hospital to treat undocumented migrants – can only hold 600 patients and has already reached one-third capacity.

“The three locations collectively can take 1,430 patients,” said Ismail Sabri.

Yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced 172 new infections, of which 112 were detected at the Immigration detention centres housing migrants rounded up in recent raids on areas under enhanced movement control order.

The cases were detected at the Semenyih, Sepang and Bukit Jalil centres. – May 26, 2020.
