PUTRAJAYA will repatriate all illegal migrants who have tested negative for Covid-19 at Immigration detention centres.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Foreign Ministry will be contacting their respective embassies to discuss how to carry out the repatriation exercise.

“If they are negative then they will have to be sent back to their respective countries. This is for all the depots around the country.

“We will also be screening all Immigration officers who are stationed at all the depots,” Ismail Sabri said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced 172 new infections, of which 112 were detected at the detention centres and involved migrants.

The cases were detected at the Semenyih, Sepang and Bukit Jalil immigration depots.

So far, immigration officers at these depots who have been tested are negative, Ismail Sabri said today.

“Anyone that is connected to the depot like food delivery or others will also have to be tested,” he said. – May 26, 2020.
