SELANGOR has recorded the highest number of people trying to cross state lines on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said Selangor recorded 685 attempts to cross into neighbouring states, while Negri Sembilan was at 133 and Pahang at 72.

“Last night, 1,243 vehicles travelling interstate on the pretext of balik kampung were ordered to turn back by the police compared to 1,158 the previous day.

“Yesterday, police also issued 214 compounds at roadblocks,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Ismail Sabri said that police have set up 162 roadblocks nationwide at all state borders and inspected 127,552 vehicles.

“We will take decisive action against those who try to cross states without permission, including charging a compound.

“Yesterday, the police also issued 14 compounds to people found to have crossed state lines without authorisation and returned to their hometowns.” – May 25, 2020.
