ALL illegal migrants, from three immigration centres, who are positive for Covid-19 will be housed at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there are a total of 4,342 illegal migrants at the three immigration centres.

“There are 1,654 in Semenyih, 1,334 in Bukit Jalil and 1,358 in Sepang.

“The public does not have to worry because the immigration centres are in lockdown.

“The migrants and immigration officers will be screened and those infected will be sent to MAEPS,” he said at the ministry’s daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Yesterday, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a new cluster with six infections was detected at the Sepang immigration detention centre.

The six infections are among the 60 new cases, of which 44 were foreigners and locally transmitted.

Twenty-seven of the foreign patients were at the Semenyih immigration facility.

Sixty Covid-19 cases were previously reported at the Bukit Jalil detention centre.

He also said those who are at MAEPS have been moved to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Ismail Sabri said it doesn’t matter where positive cases occur, the government will conduct screenings.

“Even at construction sites, chicken factories, and so on. Every illegal migrant in all three centres will be tested.

“We will also screen all the Immigration officers involved and even those who are providing food at the centres.” – May 25, 2020.
