THE Education Ministry has started inspections of schools to see if they are ready to open, with minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin visiting two schools on Wednesday.

He toured Sekolah Seri Puteri and SMK Bandar Baru Bangi to see if it was possible for these schools to reopen and follow guidelines provided by the education and health ministries.

“What is important is that the ministry wants to ensure schools follow the guidelines provided,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

He added Sekolah Seri Puteri, a full boarding school in Cyberjaya, needed to do prepare for their classes, dining hall and hostels while SMK Bandar Baru Bangi had to prep their classes, canteen and school compound.

“These two schools are among those chosen to implement the guidelines and necessary improvements have been noted.”

He had said classes would be limited to a maximum of 20 students, no school assemblies and canteens would distribute pre-packed food.

He also met with the Health Ministry and National Security Council earlier this week to discuss the reopening of schools after the easing of the movement control order.

However, teachers have yet to receive any guidelines on the resumption of classes.

National Union of Teaching Profession secretary-general Harry Tan told The Star said teachers had not received the guidelines.

The guidelines are still being discussed within the Education Ministry, he said. – May 24, 2020.

  • "The guidelines are still being discussed within the Education Ministry, he said." This is not enough. By now everyone knows that the education ministry is infested with out-of-touch-with-reality dunggus. PLEASE adhere to the expert advice of the competent professionals in the health ministry and NOT civil servants, before embarking on the reopening of schools, lest we end up with multiple clusters.

  • Maximum 29 student per class?
We all know there are easily 30-40 student per class in government schools. How are they going to split the classes and how the teachers are going to teach 2 classes instead of one ?
The schools need double the classrooms and double the teachers. Is it possible?
