ALL officers at the Bukit Jalil immigration detention centre have tested negative for Covid-19, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Tests on 114 officers and other staff working at the centre have yielded negative results.

“To date, all 114 officers and those working at the Bukit Jalil Immigration depot are negative (for Covid-19),” the defence minister and National Security Council spokesman said at the daily briefing on Covid-19 security matters in Putrajaya.

Since there are no positive cases recorded among officers and staff, Ismail Sabri said there is no need for panic or for a redeployment of officers.

This follows the Health Ministry’s move to screen some 3,000 undocumented migrants held at immigration detention centres in Bukit Jalil and Semenyih, following reports of Covid-19 infections among migrants held at the Bukit Jalil depot.

He said they are still waiting for results of Covid-19 screenings done at the Semenyih detention centre.

On if there are infections have been recorded in prisons, he said there are none to date, including foreign inmates. – May 23, 2020.
