Sri Petaling tabligh cluster sees 12 new Covid-19 cases

THE Sri Petaling mosque tabligh gathering recorded another 12 Covid-19 cases, bringing the total from the cluster to 3,359, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The director-general of health said 41,031 people linked to the tabligh cluster have been screened for the coronavirus to date.

He said this during his daily briefing in Putrajaya today on the country’s Covid-19 situation.

On the tahfiz and madrasah cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said 20,555 students and teachers have been identified from 372 schools.

He said there were 672 positive cases with more than 80% having no symptoms. 

On the wet markets cluster, he said 41,405 people have been identified with 31,932 having been tested.

So far there have been 268 positive cases. 

In his update, Dr Noor Hisham said there were 21 positive cases from 267 nursing homes, among 10,890 residents and employees.

On the new clusters, he said there were 25 new cases detected among the illegal immigrants held at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Centre.

Other older clusters also saw new cases with Kg Sg Lui having 11, followed by one each for the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market and Pudu area.

Malaysia recorded 78 new cases today, bringing the total number of Covid-19 detections to 7,137.

Of the 78, 25 were detected among Malaysians returning from overseas, with 53 local transmissions. A total of 40 cases were from foreigners, of which 25 were from the detention centre in Bukit Jalil. 

Active cases now stand at 1,163, with 63 discharged today.

Dr Noor Hisham also reported one death, bringing the toll to 115.

Patient 3,616 was a 65-year-old man who suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney disease.

He was brought to the Sg Buloh Hospital on April 3 and died at 2.58pm on May 21. – May 22, 2020.
