THE assistant warden of Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Jauhar, who was arrested and detained to assist investigations into the death of 11-year-old Mohd Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, has been released on an RM20,000 court bond today.
Kota Tinggi police chief Mohd Fairos Ithnin had requested the bond and it was granted by judge Salawati Djambari. The suspect was released after his seven-day remand ended today.
His brother posted the bond. The 29-year-old suspect arrived in handcuffs at the court in Kota Tinggi at 12.15pm and was taken to the registrar’s office 30 minutes later to be processed.
He came out uncuffed and was seen kneeling to praise god before walking away.
Police said the murder investigation will continue as they are waiting for the full post-mortem and chemist reports.
Thaqif died on April 26 at Hospital Sultan Ismail from complications related to a postponed amputation of the right arm. Doctors had earlier amputated both legs because of bacterial infection which resulted from the alleged beating he received at the hands of the assistant warden.
The assistant warden was first held to assist a probe under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2010. It was later revised to murder following Thaqif’s death.
The man was detained at his home in Felda Lok Heng Barat on April 22 after Thaqif’s mother lodged a report claiming that her son was whipped on the soles with a rubber hose. – May 3, 2017.
