A MAJORITY of Muslims will only celebrate Hari Raya with their immediate family instead of holding open houses, visiting close relatives or neighbours, a National Security Council survey found

Senior minister (security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 74% of 215,712 individuals surveyed indicated as much while only 26% were amenable to inviting people to their homes during the coming festivities.

He did not give any details of the survey.

“The majority said they will keep the celebration within family members of the same house.

“20% said they would invite close relatives while only 4% said they would invite neighbours and relatives from other states,” he said in his daily media briefing on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Ismail Sabri said the responses looked increasingly encouraging and that with such an attitude, Malaysian can prevent the spread of Covid-19. – May 18, 2020.

  • When you look at in percentages it doesnt look too bad. But nearly a quarter of Muslims in Malaysia represents a frightening number of people willing to take the risk of spreading the virus.
