MUHYIDDIN Yassin-led Bersatu and its Perikatan Nasional partners and allies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enter into an administration formed through political cooperation.

Bersatu, along with Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) today expressed their support for the Perikatan administration.

The MoU aims to ensure there is good administration at the federal and state levels that is inclusive and adheres to international standards, the group said in a joint statement today.

The statement was signed by Bersatu president Muhyiddin, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg, PBS president Maximus Johnity Ongkili and Star president Jeffrey Kitingan also signed the statement.

The MoU comes ahead of the one-day Dewan Rakyat sitting tomorrow.

This is the first time Parliament is sitting after Perikatan took over Putrajaya.

The sitting is limited to the royal address, despite the Dewan Rakyat speaker allowing a motion by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to move a no-confidence motion against the prime minister.

Perikatan partners had previously said they would support Muhyiddin if the motion was tabled.

In their statement today, Perikatan leaders said the government’s focus will be centred on ensuring the welfare, interest, peace and harmony of the people while taking care of and strengthening them on the road to development and economic recovery.

In addition to that, the MoU also aims to empower and uphold the sovereignty of the royal institution, the principles of the Rukun Negara and ensure that the welfare and interest of Malaysians across all creeds and faith are protected.

It also aims to strengthen unity and partnership with Sabah and Sarawak to realise the aspirations and goals of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

It also aims to “strengthen Perikatan Nasional through discussion and consultation in line with values and the nature of respecting one another and the various religions, races and cultures for the interest of the country as per the federal constitution and principle of the Rukun Negara”.

The political partners are also looking towards strengthening racial, religious and cultural harmony as the axis of political harmony and the country’s well-being. – May 17, 2020.
